IT's been less than a year since I first wrote about Bodhi Linux 1.2.0, but already the popular, Ubuntu-based Linux distribution has reached its second major milestone.
During the intervening time Bodhi has crept up from No. 22 to No. 18 connected DistroWatch's number of pageboy-hit rankings, where information technology currently resides, and it's added a good deal of radical features. Not only that, in point of fact, but it's also launched versions for some 32-bit and 64-bit PCs.
Bodhi features the esthetic and jackanapes Age of Reason window manager, and information technology's especially notable for its excellent customizability. Ready for a rundown? Hither are some of the highlights you'll encounte in the new Bodhi Linux 2.0.
1. Built connected Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Whereas previous versions of Bodhi Linux were based on Ubuntu 10.04, variation 2.0 is shapely happening top of the latest Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS "Distinct Pangolin" instead. Accordingly, the release's overriding goal "is to allow our distro to modulation to the next major Ubuntu LTS as a distro base," lead developer Jeff Hoogland explained in a blog post earlier this year.
2. 64-Bit Support
Along with Ubuntu 12.04 comes native support for 64-second PCs. Sol, "Bodhi 2.0.0 is our first stabile release to be offered in both 32- and 64-bit flavors," Hoogland wrote in the recent release announcement.
3. Linux 3.2
Upgrading from version 3.0 of the Linux kernel, which is what was faced in Bodhi 1.2.0, the new Bodhi Linux 2.0 uses the Linux 3.2 kernel alternatively.
4. An Updated Browser
Whereas Bodhi 1.2.0 too used version 0.4.0 of the lightweight Midori Web browser, the latest release of the extricated and out-of-doors source operating system of rules uses version 0.4.6 instead. As in late releases, the PCManFM Indian file manager is included likewise.
5. A Bran-new Period Emulator
Also included in Bodhi Linux 2.0 is Terminology, a spick-and-span closing emulator launched earlier this yr.
6. Bug Fixes Galore
Last but not least, just five years and some 15,000 downloads following the release of Bodhi Linux 2.0, the project's developers came out with Bodhi 2.0.1 to address numerous hemipteran reports that came up in those first few days. So, fixes are now incorporated in that latest interpretation.
Want to give Bodhi Linux a try for yourself? Links for both direct and torrent downloads of both the 32-bite and 64-bit versions are available in the most recent promulgation.
